Hensarling: Kaufman County Ag Producers Eligible for Assistance

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Jeb Hensarling announced today that some agricultural producers in Kaufman County may be eligible for disaster assistance.  Producers who meet certain Farm Service Agency requirements are eligible for assistance that includes FSA emergency loans and the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments Program.

This USDA assistance is available as a result of a determination made on July 14, 2009, by the Secretary of Agriculture.  In this determination, the Secretary determined that several Texas counties – including Kaufman County- warranted USDA disaster designations as a result of freezing temperatures that occurred between April 6 and April 8, 2009.

Hensarling said, “Agriculture is important to the economy in Kaufman County, and producers should check with the FSA’s Forney office to see if they qualify for this assistance.”

The Farm Service Agency’s Forney office can be reached at (972) 552-5254.

“While I hope this assistance will help producers who might be temporarily struggling as a result of Mother Nature’s actions,” he continued, “they can count on me to continue fighting to permanently repeal the Death Tax and to kill the national energy tax, actions that will increase their opportunity for long-term success.
